Books of the year 2006
Sarah Dunant nominates White
Man Falling as one her choices for 2006 book of the year in the
Independent's annual survey of prominent critics and authors.

2006 Goss first novel award
It was great fun to attend the
presentation dinner of this award with the other shortlisted authors
– and a real thrill to hear that my book was the winner. The
£2500 award is part of the Guildford Book Festival, and the
organisers put on a wonderfully well-run evening involving good food
and wine and some excellent recitals from the shortlisted works by
actors.

My thanks to everyone involved,
especially the judges chaired by Sarah Dunant, who had to read 82
novels all told – a gruelling commitment.
